We began our last day in Jersey at a place called Uncle Bill’s Pancakes!
Love my pretty Mamas.
I was in chocolate chip pancake heaven.
After all those carbs, we soaked up one last visit to the beach!
And failed at numerous jumping pictures.
We were pretty proud of this one. Haha.
The last stop before we headed out was Kohr’s ice cream. I wish I had one of these right this second!
Andrew had never been to Washington, D.C., and we decided to knock it off our list since it was just a few hours away.
My little history nerd was so giddy. :)
I’d been to Arlington National Cemetery a couple times on trips as a teenager, but it was definitely more humbling and moving going as an adult (am I considered an adult now?).
It feels like our country has kind of gone insane recently, but it was hard not to feel immensely grateful surrounded by all these heroes.
The sad truth about DC in August is that you either have to drive in crazy traffic and pay parking fees everywhere to see all the sights, or you have to walk dozens of miles in the 82% humidity. We decided to be cheap and sweaty. (The third option is to take a bus tour, but they were also a little pricey.) But hey, we burned off our vacation calories. ;)
When I die, please erect a statue of Jack and me.
One of the city maps we looked at before we left our hotel had an ad for Andrew’s favorite – Potbelly’s! They were everywhere, and he was ecstatic. :)
We probably could have used an extra two or three days to explore the Smithsonian museums. We narrowed it down and visited the American History, Natural History, and Air and Space Museums.
He loves waffles.
My favorite exhibit was this photo series at the Natural History Museum. I want to get paid to travel and take pictures of animals!
I felt rather sweaty and gross all day, so I wasn’t in many pictures, but I had to get one standing next to an outfit Chris Pine wore in Star Trek. Haha. ;)
FYI – they don’t let you take pictures of the Declaration of Independence. I imagine too many people asked questions about stealing it. ;)
20 hours of driving later, and we were home.
Puppy was thrilled to return to normal. ;) His little wound is healing well, by the way, and he is overjoyed to be without that cone of shame.
Our next adventure is just two weeks away…Disney World with Tanner and Gabby! :D
Happy Thursday, loves!
